Revisit the Early Days of Postpartum
Every day around 4pm, everything fell apart.
My usually easygoing baby would morph into a tiny, red-faced bundle of tears, gnawing on her fist and squalling in that way only newborns can.
I’d spend hours breastfeeding, baby-wearing, bouncing...counting the minutes until help arrived.

ABOUT Jill Kimura
Jill is an artist and mother of two from the Washington, D.C. area. Home birthing and wrangling two tiny humans as a stay at home mom inspired her to capture the raw, emotional, and deeply personal nuances of postpartum through her art.
Jill has collaborated with Faces of Postpartum to design merchandise for their platform that shares photo essays from postpartum people around the world. She’s illustrated for Good Little Girls Zine, an online women’s magazine featuring poetry, essays, and short stories by female writers.
Her painting Refuge was recently featured in Gift of Life, a juried exhibition by the Women’s Caucus for Art in Washington, D.C., aimed at raising awareness and providing resources for maternal health.
She’s also exhibited her work in the SHE:DC 2024 curated art show featuring female and non-binary artists in the DMV, Palette 22 DC, and at City Food Hall Grandview in West Palm Beach, FL.
Jill’s work continues to evolve, intertwining themes of motherhood and nature, reflecting both her growing perspective and distinct creative voice.
